Shelburne Farms, VT Engagement Shoot - Allison Macy Photography

I'm Ali!

I am a chocolate lover, dog mom, avid fiction reader, exercise junkie, get-me-outside girl, and heart-driven photographer.

I am still SWOONING over Mallory and Neil’s engagement shoot at Shelburne Farms here in the Vermont mountains. I love shooting here for so many reasons…

I grew up in Shelburne and remember heading to the farm for field trips, fireworks and concerts. It is also where Sam and I took our engagement pictures so it holds an extra special place in my heart.

Shelburne Farms sits on about 1,400 acres of sprawling hills and pastures. The views are unparalleled whether you’re overlooking Mount Mansfield and Camel’s hump over the farm barn or Lake Champlain from the Lone Tree Hill Path.

Mallory used to work at the farm so it is just as close to her heart as it is to mine. This made for a pretty special shoot!

Warming Up for the Engagement Session

I made a quick stop at Mallory’s childhood home to snap a few pics of Mal, Neil and their pup, Addie. I am ALL about the dog pics🙂 Then, we headed right to the farm!

I love to start with walking pics to loosen up and get my couples comfy in front of the camera. If you’ve never taken engagement pictures (or any kind of pictures!) it is REALLY normal to be a bit nervous. But, it shakes off pretty quickly as you realize it is all about having fun, being yourself and MOVING!

I love action prompts over stiff posing all day, everyday!

Shelburne Farms Coach Barn

Once we were warmed up, our next stop was the Coach Barn. It was completed in 1902 and it was the last “major” building to be added and completed on the property.

There was a gorgeous field turning gold right across the way, so we obviously had to make a pit stop! These ended up being some of my FAVORITE pictures from the session.

Poppin’ Bottles

You can’t go wrong with a champagne toast (read: spray) at your shoot. This is something I DEFINITELY wish I had done for mine.

Because Shelburne Farms sits right on Lake Champlain, it is the perfect spot to get in the water and celebrate. I snap SO MANY pics during champagne poppin’ and deliver almost all of them because they’re so fun to flip through quickly – it looks like an old fashioned movie!

The Farm Barn @ Shelburne Farms

The Farm Barn is one of the most iconic Shelburne Farms locations! So, we had to do a little dancin’, kissin’ and dippin’.

The Overlook

This is one of the most GORGEOUS spots to watch the sunset. In one direction, you have an amazing mountain scape and the moon rising above the Farm Barn. On the other side, the sun is setting and makes for some GORGEOUS (and super fun) shots playing with those evening rays.

After spending a gorgeous evening with Mal and Neil, I cannot WAIT for their October wedding next year!

Love stories? Here's mine!

I wasn't born with a camera in my hand and I haven't "wanted to be a photographer ever since I can remember." My passion for photography developed (a bit) later in my life and since then, I would consider it quite the obsession...

As you explore, ask yourself "can I see myself in these images?"

I like to describe my style as, "a little grain, a little pop of color, a lot of wild love."
