VERMONT Family Photography - specializing in storytelling MATERNITY, newborn, family sessions

GET IN TOUCH

If growing a tiny human has taught me anything, it is that time is fleeting and I want to remember every detail.

These moments are stories in action. And, in a busy world asking us to always keep moving, it is easy to forget how you felt when you were living in it. The kicks of your growing little one, the moments between you and your partner as becoming parents feels more and more real, the small hand wrapping around your finger, the story time, bath time, and in between moments that make your life what it is.

Storytelling Vermont family photography captures these raw, real stories and emotions in a non-intrusive way so we create images that feel like you.

storytelling

v: documenting the real story of your season how it happens, as it happens.

Family, newborn, and maternity galleries have a typical turnaround time of four weeks but I'll always send a little sneak peak before that so you have a few to post, print and share while you wait!

I'll send a link to your final gallery which includes your edited images, full download and printing rights granted, an online print shop, and a link you can share with loved ones.

Important note: I will never post your kiddos' faces on my social media without your permission. Please see the FAQs for more info!

Let's do the thing!

We'll have fun (I promise, it will be fun... looking at you, dads!) documenting your story! Sessions typically last anywhere from  1-3 hours depending on your vision and session type.

THE session

03.

If a storytelling family session feels right to you, reach out using my contact form.

From there, we'll chat a bit more about your vision and put a date on the calendar.

Special Timing Considerations:
Newborn
Because arrival of your little one is unpredictable, I'll make a note of your due date so it is on my radar. From there, I'll have you reach out once you're home, settled in, and feeling ready for a shoot. Typically, I recommend scheduling a newborn session for 2-4 weeks after your little one arrives.

Maternity
This is generally up to personal preference although I recommend waiting until your last few months of pregnancy so we can really see that bump!

On the calendar

02.

Capturing images that feel representative of this important time in your life starts with you sharing your story with me.

What feels most special and fleeting during this season of your life? What will you want to remember most? What inspires you most? What will you want to document together?

This is where we start (through email, texting, voice memos, or meeting up for a walk or coffee!) so we can plan a session that feels right and true to you.

After you receive your gallery, you'll have the option to order prints, books, and other keepsakes. If you choose to print through the shops I recommend, I guarantee all color correction and crops, and I double check orders before they go to print.

"If you’re looking for one of a kind photos, Ali is your person!"

families & motherhood

If you’re looking for one of a kind photos, Ali is your person! One thing I love about Ali is you can meet her for the first time or know her for years, she treats you like her bestie! Ali has a unique and creative way to capture your memories and I promise you won’t be disappointed. She stays true to what she loves, yet hears everything you want incorporated in your session. She’s flexible and understanding (trust me—a newborn and a dog in my photo shoot!!) and guides you through the entire process. I can’t thank her enough for capturing one of the best parts of my life so far, becoming a mom! Excited to have her capture more as my family grows. I highly recommend Allison Macy Photography!

Jenny

She has done our family photos three separate times now and each time has been wonderful. She's so casual, makes you feel incredibly comfortable in front of the camera, and really focuses on getting the candid real life photos, not just the posed ones (though she makes sure to always get at least a few nicely posed too!). I would recommend her to anyone!

Ali has been absolutely fabulous!

Mattea

Working with Ali is like a dream! she is punctual, great with communication, helpful, and she is always ready to take on any mix of people, pets and is the best with littles!

Her turn around time on photos is AMAZING, to go right along with the amazing photos she takes. Always catching the most perfect moments! HIGHLY recommend Ali for all your photo needs, family session, mini session or just because session!! she can truly do it all !!!

Originally I had wanted to do a maternity shoot, but when baby came early Allison graciously let us switch it to a family/newborn shoot. She is so stinking fun to work with! We enjoyed every second!

She is laid back and flexible, and knows how to put her clients, even kids, at ease. I'm so impressed that despite chaos, she captured beautiful photos. She caught all the small details that really represent us as a family. We loved our experience and our photos!

Allison was amazing at our family shoot.

Julie

We booked a newborn session with Ali while I was still pregnant and after doing the session we couldn't wait to book with her again! Ali is not only an incredible photographer, she made us feel so comfortable, helped us set up our home for perfect shots, and gave great advice for what to wear, how to pose, etc. She was very communicative and turned around our images so quickly. I love every single photo she's taken for us and I'm so grateful to have all these memories captured (she got so many good candids as well!). I highly recommend Ali to anyone looking for a lifestyle photographer!

Our baby is only 8 months old and we've already done 2 shoots with Ali.

Devon

Ali did a maternity / family session for our family & it was incredible! Obvi the photos are stunning, but even beyond that the experience was actually FUN! Ali was a natural at helping us feel comfortable & keeping things light (even for an enthusiastic two year old!). I highly recommend her!

We traveled to Smuggler's Notch for vacation and I booked a session with Ali as a gift to document this moment in time for my extended family. My family is SO happy with how our photos turned out, how laid back it felt, and how many photos we have to choose from. Her storytelling-style shoot was perfect for the kiddos who don't like standing still, the guys who hate getting their photo taken, and the ladies who are not super comfortable in front of the lens. She was so good with the littles that one of the them insisted on holding her hand as we walked back to the car. I get excited every time I open them back up. Wish we were closer so that we could hang with her every year. ♥️

Working with Allison Macy Photography was a pleasure from start to finish. Ali takes time to ask questions and understand what you are looking for in your photos. The sessions are relaxed and natural which is especially helpful with little ones. From working with Ali, it is clear that she takes pride in her work and cares about those that she is delivering pictures to. Her finished product is timely and of great quality. Her communication is clear and consistent and she is always happy to answer any questions that you have regarding your session. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend using Ali to capture moments through photos. You will love the pictures you get!

Ali captured some of my favorite photos that now hang on our walls in our home.

sara

Ali was amazing to work with! From the beginning she was responsive, informative, and professional. She took the time to understand what we wanted from our photo session and was so thorough and detail oriented throughout the whole process. Our session was truly relaxed and so much fun, being a couple who doesn’t love the camera she made it easy! Our gallery was returned quickly with beautiful sneak peaks to hold us over in the meantime. Her work is truly beautiful and authentic and I can’t wait to see all that she continues to capture!

Ali’s presence is so genuine, kind, and calming.

Maggie

Communication leading up to our family photos was great and when the day came, Ali was amazing. She brought such a bubbly and comfortable vibe and was so flexible with our cranky toddler (lol). It felt like hanging with an old friend! I am so excited to order prints to display these super special photos in our home.

First and foremost, Ali delivered an absolutely stunning gallery!

Carolyn

Working with Ali was a wonderful experience! She came to our home for family photos and did such a wonderful job capturing the spirit of our families day to day life. She was super easy to communicate with and very responsive to any questions I had. I should also note my husband hates having photos taken and he said he would work with Ali again! The end result of our session was a series of photos we will treasure forever! I won't hesitate to work with Ali for many family sessions to come.

I love her style of story telling with photos rather than the more typical stand and pose here photos.

Meghan

Ali is simply incredible! On top of her artistic style and talent, she makes you feel incredible natural and comfortable while taking photos! We have gotten to celebrate a lot of life’s moments with her and I’d chose her over and over again. 15/10 recommend. We love her!

Ali was excellent at communicating, easy to book with and even reached out a few days prior to our shoot to ask about a rain date because the weather was looking iffy. The rain held off, luckily, and we spent time walking around, being ourselves, and mostly forgetting Ali was there (except when my kids wanted to make sure she didn't get swept away in the lake as she backed up to take pictures). She was so great with my kids (ages 6/4) and gave us some direction but also let us do our thing. The photoshoot itself was great, but the pictures we got were even better! She nailed it with a variety of images, capturing our personalities and getting in fantastic backgrounds. She sent over a few sneak peeks, and then a well-organized gallery that had me so impressed. 10/10 recommend Ali for any photo needs and plan to book with her again!

We had a session with Ali in the summer and it was the family photo shoot of my dreams!

Allison did such a wonderful job capturing such a special moment in our lives— announcing our pregnancy— in a candid, authentic way. She took a small vision I had and incorporated her own vision and skills; creating a photoshoot better than I could have imagined. I will forever cherish those photos and would recommend her to everyone I know. She really is one of the best!

During a session, I take upwards of 1000+ photos. Then, I work hard to choose, edit, curate and deliver a final gallery that tells the story of your season of life. You can expect to receive at least 80 images for every hour we spend together (usually more!)

As a mom, I totally understand and respect the decision to keep your children's faces off of social media and this is a choice I give all families from the get-go. Your Storytelling Canvas (sent after booking to help me get to know so much about you, your family, and your vision) includes a question specifically about this so we're on the same page at all times. At the end of the day, my photography is about YOU, YOUR story and what YOU are comfortable with. TLDR: When given permission, yes. Otherwise, you will never have to worry about it!

My typical turnaround time for family,  maternity and newborn sessions is four weeks on the off season and four to six weeks during the busy summer and fall seasons. I always try to get as close to four as possible and I send sneak peeks within a week of your session so you have some photos to view and share to hold you over! Your final gallery is delivered through an online platform called Pic-Time with unlimited downloads of both web-sized and full-resolution images. I send an Image Cropping and Storage Safety Guide with your final gallery.

As a mom, I know how quickly kiddos can go from totally happy to a puddle of tears... and then back again! Before your session, I ask a ton of questions about your kids. What do they like, how do they feel around new people, and much more so I can be as prepared as possible. The getting-to-know-you process also helps us select the best location and activities to ensure your kiddos feel as comfortable as possible.  I will roll with whatever they throw at us! If they need breaks, snacks, or a moment to snuggle, that is what we'll give them!

I believe that the best images come from true connection. My ability to bring that out comes from an in-depth getting-to-know you process where I get a better idea of your kiddos' relationships with you, with each other, and with the world around them. Then, I gently prompt and guide sessions to help bring out the personalities and details you want to capture most. Think less poses and "smile at the camera" and more interacting naturally with each other! It is okay if it feels a little awkward at first—that is so, so common and getting us past that is exactly what I'm here for and good at;)

Something you're comfortable in and that matches the occasion, location and season! If you're comfortable, your pictures will show it. (And if you're uncomfortable, your pictures will show that, too!). I send an extensive Session Guide upon booking that has tons of helpful information regarding outfit choice. Best practices, inspo boards, places to shop etc. I also make myself available to help you through email, text, facetime, and any other means ahead of time to ensure you feel ready for your session:)

If you're looking to book during the busy season (May-October), reaching out as soon as possible is ideal as these months fill fast—especially weekends! But, it never hurts to reach out last second if you're feeling inspired (I've totally been there). If you're available during weekdays and evenings, there is a higher likelihood I'll be able to squeeze you in last second! Wondering how and when to book a newborn session (since timing is more unpredictable? Here are my best tips!).

I totally get it—life happens (especially with kids!). If you need to cancel or reschedule, please let me know ASAP and we'll find a new time that works for both of us! And, if you have an inkling kids are getting sick or something may come up, it is okay to let me know that ahead of time as well. At the end of the day, the more communication, the better!

Curly hair and puddle jumping? Yes please! If it looks like rain, I'm still down to give your session a shot if you are! (Obviously, we won't shoot if it is a complete downpour!) That said, I know it can be hit or miss with kiddos. If we decide to hold off, we'll reschedule for a later date that works for both of our calendars. I try to make a call the night before or morning of... you know how unpredictable VT weather is (and how quickly it can change!).

Mini sessions are around 30 minutes and I deliver around 50 images. I usually offer mini sessions 2-3 times per year: Just before Mother's Day, Late Summer/Early Fall and sometimes around the holidays. I may open up a few mini session slots in the off season or offer them on one-off occasions if necessary. The best way to stay in the loop about these session times and openings is to sign up for the waitlist here!
