This Shelburne Farms sunset engagement session was absolutely perfect. The farm is an amazing place for any photography shoot—it boasts gardens, lake views, mountain tops, wooded walks, fields, animals, and stunning architecture. As if that isn’t reason enough, Kate and Cody had a special connection to the farm since Kate lived and worked there for a few college summers.
When photographing at Shelburne Farms (one of my very places to shoot!) I love to meet couples in the front parking lot, consolidate cars, and drive in together (don’t worry—I’ll sit in the back!). It gives us a chance to make a game plan, get to know each other, and get comfy with each other before I throw a camera in your face. If we’re not shooting at Shelburne Farms, I still like to park a few minutes from our first location so we can walk together and chat before we get started.
My goal in any engagement session is to get you so comfortable with each other by focusing on raw, real interaction that you forget I’m even there. That results in such fun photos that truly represent your relationship and the way you love to interact.
The Shelburne Farms Breeding Barn
We started the session near the Breeding Barn. Not only is it a staple of Shelburne Farms’ history, but it gives plenty of space to run, play, and capture different aspects of the property.
Shelburne Farms Sunset Engagement: Heading to the Lake
After running around near the Breeding Barn, we jumped in the car and headed to the lake. There is a gorgeous field on the way where we spent a teeny bit more time as we let the sun descend in the sky. The sunset at Shelburne Farms is gorgeous, but you have to time it right if you want gorgeous images and the golden or blue hour magic you see below!
