Learn more about what made this Stowe, VT Family photography session with the Coteus family so spectacular and how their nature-centered, relaxed session resulted in one of my very favorite final albums.
When I showed up to meet the Coteus family for the first time, Catherine was wearing a white t-shirt and a pair of Rudy Jude jeans (that I am still trying to hunt down on Poshmark), and her husband was in a regular old t-shirt with work pants. Their littlest one was running around in her diaper, and their four-year-old was wearing his favorite swim trunks and shirt from his nature school. In other words, they were totally my vibe.
Before each family photography session, I ask tons of questions about what is most important for you to see in your final gallery and the kind of imagery you connect with.
These questions not only ensure your final gallery encapsulates what is most important to you, but it also keeps you relaxed during a session. The best photos come from true emotion and fun vs. forced poses. And, activities your kiddos are used to and enjoy doing keeps them involved and excited about taking photos.
What games do you play with your family (the Coteus family plays “Gravity Machine” on the bed)? What does a typical day look like (going for a walk, playing in their backyard stream, and eating popsicles)? What do you want to remember most about this season of life (breastfeeding)? 👇👇👇

Plan Your Own Vermont In-Home Family Session
I call my family, maternity, and newborn sessions “Storytelling Sessions” because that is exactly what they are.
Together, we plan a session that encapsulates the season of life you want to document. I’ll ask specific questions to help you brainstorm the most important moments, memories, and feelings you want to remember. You’ll have a chance to tell me more about the kind of images you’re most drawn to and the things that inspire you, and share any images you’ve seen and loved. Then, we’ll work together to plan outfits and choose a location and time that best represents your family and the story you want to tell.
